You’d have to be living under a rock if you haven’t heard someone talk about crazy methods to slow down with your food in order to lose weight…like counting your chews or even chewing your food till it’s liquid.
For me, those techniques never worked. Counting my chews made me feel like a robot and chewing my food till it’s liquid…well, that’s just gross.
And where’s the pleasure and enjoyment of your food if you’re obsessing over every bite?
While these looney tactics didn’t resonate with me, I still needed a way that I could slow down with my food…one that no one would be able to sniff out if I was sharing a meal with them… and one that was actually fun.
Then it hit me. I knew just the thing.
So I started practicing eating this new way… And you’ll never guess what happened!
Meal time, whether dining with 10 peeps or just me, became fun, enjoyable and tasty – like a mini vacation in my day. I stopped overeating and would land confidently at satiated – not stuffed, not starving and not grazing for more.
And the best thing was that I could actually enjoy my food without becoming a crazy control freak over every bite.

I love myself a good gadget!
After all, their usual purpose is to save time and stress in your life so you can have more fun.
Take my strawberry slicer, for example. It creates perfectly sliced strawberries in less than 1 second. Not only is it fun to “shoot” strawberries, but it saves me precious time and my fingers from visiting a knife’s guillotine. It’s a genius idea.
So naturally when the Fitbit gadget started to get some hype, I had to try it.
If you aren’t familiar with them, they look (and feel) somewhat similar to what I’d imagine a house arrest bracelet would be (I actually purchased a Jawbone UP).
At first I was all excited about mine. It gave me counts for how far I would walk in a day and counts for how many hours I slept each night.
I now know that CJ has an extremely small bladder and we walk more than 4 miles a day for him to just go poo and pee.
But after about 48 hours of wearing this device, I started to see some REAL problems with it. Unavoidable problems that will cause you to GAIN weight.
Especially if you’re a woman who moves and eats healthy and still can’t seem to slim down.

Did you know that a woman will spend over $15,000 on makeup in her lifetime?
I believe it.
In fact, a few years ago there was a time when I wouldn’t leave the house without makeup on. And if I had a friend sleep over, I’d even SLEEP with concealer and foundation on to mask my pizza face.
I used to buy sooo many beauty products, desperate to find what would make me look and feel beautiful.
My oh my, how times have changed.
Nowadays, I love going fresh faced just about everywhere. This might sound silly but sometimes, because of my past, I still get a little shocked when someone compliments how beautiful I am without makeup on.

When I first quit my corporate job, I stepped up my workouts to 20+ hours a week. I was back in school and when I wasn’t studying, I was working out.
At first I thought this was awesome. I finally could burn more than I ate. I would finally have the body I always wanted.
I would skip down the street thinking about how I’d finally have magazine cover 6-pack abs and how my triceps would stop jiggling when I waved.
But I never got there.
My belly still looked bloated and my arms…well, they still looked like MY arms.
I was pissed.
How could this be?
I said to myself, “I’m eating healthy and literally living in my lululemon, how could I NOT get the body I always wanted?!”
Well, if I could go back in time and tell myself what I know now I would’ve had a LOT more time on my hands. Not to mention energy and fun times too.
And I hear this is a familiar situation for a lot of women who I work with.
Ok, maybe they aren’t working out like it’s a part time job, but they are moving their bods and that number on the scale is staying put.

But it wasn’t always this way.
I used to spend HOURS on my feet chopping, prepping and cooking EVERYTHING. I thought it was my golden ticket to finally having the body I always longed for.
Well, this got old (and f-ing exhausting!) for me very fast. Cooking eventually became overwhelming and stressful.
And any good that I was doing by eating clean was quickly counteracted with the burden of the stress I’d encounter each week I’d try to do it all.
Not fun.
And not a sustainable way to slim down.

I once had a client say to me “I’ll never give up my red wine so don’t even try to make me”.
Like clockwork, at 6pm every night she’d pop a bottle of red and pour herself a glass as she prepped dinner.
I replied with a giggle, “don’t worry, I’m not going to make you give up anything you don’t already want to.”
Now that’s not something you’ll hear a lot of weight loss experts say. But I knew that when she started Laughing Herself Skinny, she’d be slimming down no matter what she drank, or ate.

A few of my gal pals and I have this daily ritual that you’re gonna think is kinda weird.
Every morning we hop on the phone, the 4 of us and do a quick check in…we acknowledge the good in our lives, give gratitude for it and then set our intentions for the day and sometimes our life.
One of my gfs has been desiring to slim down and she’s been doing a really good job at eating healthier and getting her butt to her fav barre class in the morning. I’m very proud of her and it’s been a treat to see how excited she gets when she notices her body changing.
Except one day she slept through her alarm.
I could hear in her voice how shattered she was. Disappointed. Frustrated. Pissed off.
Like her body let her down by not waking up to her alarm.
I hear this from a lot of my clients too. That if they stop counting, tracking and pounding the pavement, their body will blow up like a balloon.
The good news is, it’s quite the opposite…and today’s J-ciniTV topic!
