How to Lose Weight Without Losing Your Mind

Busy buzzin’ like a little bee over here preppin’ my apartment for my dinner party tomorrow night! Believe it or not, I JUST took down my Christmas tree this weekend.

Thought it might be in poor form to have you all “over” to my place and see that my tree was still up – and yes, it is (or I should say ‘was’) a real tree. Maybe someday I’ll do a training on how to make your real x-mas tree last 2 months…but not today!

Today I want to talk to you about one of the MAJOR missing pieces for so many women who are lovers of kale, don’t mind a good sweat session and still aren’t feeling like a million bucks.

It’s your mind.

I also like to refer to it as your mental station tuned to “radio f*ck you”.

If you’ve got a bully in your brain or what I like to call your “inner critic” running the show, you MUST turn it around. Or your mental angst, anxiousness, unhappiness and abuse will continually manifest itself physically for you by feeling like a 10 pound sausage in a 5 pounds casing. Not fun.

Now, shifting your mindset and cultivating your inner cheerleader cannot be done alone and goes waaaay beyond sticking post-it notes of affirmations like “mind over matter” all over your home.

How to tone up, slim down and lose weight fast!

I confess if we were to rewind a few years ago, I was addicted to my heart rate monitor.

I wore it every day (because I used to work out every day) and would LOVE watching the calorie count tick away during a sweat session. Back then it was normal for me to burn upwards of 800 calories a day from my workouts.

I thought if I was burning more than half my food from one workout every day of the week, I should have had washboard abs and a body like a Cameron Diaz.

So you can imagine how continually disappointed and exhausted I was that exercising and eating kale was not my ticket to the lean, toned body I always lusted after.

What I learned from years of this was that just like food, not all workouts are going to leave you slim and trim – no matter how many calories you burn!

One of the most common lines I hear from women who are struggling to lose weight is, “I’m eating healthy and exercising – and I don’t know what’s wrong with me! – I just can’t seem to lose these 10 pounds!”

Got Crazy Sugar Cravings?

Do you have a killer sweet tooth?

I don’t know about you, but I used to crave sugar when I woke up, at breakfast, at lunch, after lunch, at 3pm, when I got home from work, at dinner and after dinner.

And those nighttime sugar craving were always the worst!

I used to try not buying the stuff, distracting myself, drinking a large glass of water…

Even if I didn’t end up eating it, just fighting the cravings was more exhausting than trying to burn it off!

But then cycle would continue and I began to think there was something wrong with me…”why can’t I just STOP craving this stuff? where’s my willpower?”

Little did I know, there was nothing wrong with me. In fact, there were very good reasons why I was craving this stuff and it had nothing to do with my willpower.

3 Ways To Jumpstart Your Post-Holiday Detox

Today is the first official J-ciniTV episode of 2014 and I’m THRILLED to share it with you.

Anyhooo – I’m sure your holidays and new years were one big month-long celebration that may have you feeling less than fabulous. Don’t get me wrong – I love a good glass of champagne and chocolate cookie sandwiches from Sweet Freedom here in Philly, but after nightly indulgences my body is craving a good cleanse.

Now if you think I’m clearing my social calendar and drinking juice for 3 days straight in an effort to get back on track…come on! You know me better than that!

I’ve learned the hard way that the only thing waiting for me at the end of a juice cleanse is a binge, so I never recommend it to you, especially if you struggle with emotional eating like me.

I’ve got something waaaay better than that.

When did asking for what we really want seem like too much?

For years my parents required I hand over my Christmas list. Anything that was on the list had receiving potential.

My mom started this tradition so the holidays for her were a heck of a lot easier… and fun! Instead of lamenting over whether I’d like the black or brown uggs and racking her brain if I’m a size 6 or 7, she could spend more time relaxing knowing she got exactly what I wanted.

As women, we can spend so much time thinking up and researching gift ideas for others, it can be really difficult to know exactly what WE want.

Traveling? How to Avoid Airplane Bloat

I hope your Thanksgiving weekend was fabulous! Mine will certainly go down in history since Saturday I rescued a puppy…

I’m a little biased but isn’t he the cutest? His name is CJ.

If we’re friends on Facebook or you check out my pics on instagram, I’m always leavin’ on a jet plane / traveling. And for years that was a major reason why I never said yes to my desire to have a dog.

But I recently realized that my lifestyle isn’t going to change anytime soon, nor do I want it to, so it was time to figure out a way to have both – travel and a dog I love.

(Just like with losing weight… you CAN have a life, fun and eat the foods you love AND lose weight.)

Now, rewind a couple years ago and similar to the dog situation, I thought if I traveled a lot I couldn’t have the body I loved.

I used to think “where will I work out?”, “will I even have time to work out?”, “what if there’s nothing healthy to eat at the airport?”, “UGH. I don’t want to eat hotel food for a week”.

But soon I got thrown into traveling regularly and I became a pro at figuring out how to stay healthy, sane and slim on the road.

Since travel is something that will always be a part of my life and yours, it doesn’t mean our bodies and health have to suffer.

In this episode of J-ciniTV, I give you a few easy-peasy tips to stay slim when traveling and beat that dreaded airplane bloat…
