How to feel safe in your skin

May 5, 2015

Many exciting things are happening here! Last week Zach asked me to marry him…

And tonight I’m jumping on a plane to Paris for a girls trip! I’m so excited!

But, in light of the Paris terror attacks, when I confirmed my trip, my father was not thrilled.

He has always worried about my safety.

He’ll lovingly remind me to lock my doors, not wear jewelry outside of my own home for fear of being mugged and will even ask me, “are you safe?!” before we get off the phone.

God bless him.

So when I discovered one of the roots of my emotional eating was that I didn’t feel safe and needed to control EVERYTHING, I could easily point to WHY (my loving father wasn’t the only reason).

Now, I will proudly admit that I have been adopting a “sweet surrender” to the uncertainties of life (cause let’s face it, they’re everywhere) and I can’t even tell you how much energy, time and joy I have gotten back because of it. And how it really supported in my healing my emotional eating.

So how do you start feeling safe in your skin? No matter where you are, no matter what you’re doing, and no matter who you’re around?

It’s in this week’s episode of J-ciniTV!

FYI: Feeling safe is a deep root of emotional eating. Even if the title of the video doesn’t resonate with you, my request is you watch it anyway as this could be something happening unconsciously for you. Therefore, watching this could be major shortcut to healing.

Much love to you and thanks for tuning in!

Does Being Thin Really Matter?

April 28, 2015

If you had the opportunity to crawl inside my brain a few years ago, you would have seen I was constantly worrying about myself…

Worried about what I was going to eat for my next meal…

Worried about how far my stomach was sticking out…

Worried that I was never going to feel comfortable or confident in my skin no matter what I tried.

With 85% of my daily energy going towards food, my body, and myself it makes sense why I didn’t really have time for anything else.

Some people might have called it selfish.

But you wouldn’t have known that looking at me from the outside.

From the outside, I had a pretty darn good life.

But on the inside, it was a completely different story. I was very unhappy.

As women, we can feel guilty that we aren’t truly happy with our seemingly good lives…even secretly shameful because some others might consider our wanting something different as selfish.

After all, there’s starving children in the world and cancer that needs to be cured.

So should we just throw in the towel and put our energy towards something like world peace because worrying about weight is selfish?

Like…does being thin even really matter?

I think it’s an important question! And I give you my opinion in this week’s episode of J-ciniTV.

You might not like what I have to say here:

By the way, from here on out we’re going to continue talking about emotional eating and your relationship to food and your body here at LYS, not world peace. Just in case you were wondering 😛

Because it starts with the peace inside your world.

Love, health & laugher,
Jessica

How to Finally Feel Full

April 21, 2015

I used to have this thing with granola. Where I could eat bowl after bowl after bowl and never feel full.

I would often tell myself it was no big deal because it was granola. Not French fries.

But then the same thing started happening with peanut butter, chocolate and eventually…entire meals.

Where I could literally eat and eat and eat and nothing would satisfy me.

I tried portion control, counting calories, even abstaining from purchasing my “trigger” foods.

Looking back, I really wish someone had helped me with a real solution sooner. Not something superficial that I couldn’t stick with.

If you find yourself never full like I was, you need to watch this week’s episode of J-ciniTV.

This is the first step to finally feeling full:

Most of all, I want you to know that it doesn’t matter what you eat. What matters is the emotional battle you engage in when you approach food.

Is it peaceful, easy and fun? Or is it full of fear, struggle and frustration?

If it’s the latter, I’m here to support you every step of the way so you can finally find freedom around food.

Thanks for tuning in!

Love, health & laughter,

Jessica

How to Stop Eating When You’re Full

March 31, 2015

I’m settling back in and digesting the amazing experience we had on the LYS Escape. Here are a few snapshots from the week:

JP_StThomas2015

One of the things I love about being in person with my clients is witnessing the powerful healing around their relationship with food that takes place when we’re together.

And there’s one specific area I sense you could use some help with…

That’s knowing when to stop eating. And actually doing it.

When I ask women, “how do you know when we’re full?”, I often get blank stares and shoulder shrugs…

“Well…when my plate is clear?” squeaks out one woman.
“I have no idea!” exclaims another.
“I think I always overeat,” shamefully admits another.

When you rely on diets, portion control and meal plan measurements to tell you how much to eat – your relationship with your body’s natural fullness signs are very hard to hear or even notice.

Which means you’re either overeating or undereating at every meal. This sends your metabolism into a tailspin. And that’s no place to lose weight.

So in this week’s episode of J-ciniTV, I teach you 3 tricks so you can elegantly land at the perfect point of fullness – not too stuffed and not still hungry.

This will help tame overeating:

How to have instant self-confidence

March 24, 2015

It’s been 80 degrees and sunny here in St. Thomas… and it feels SO good to have traded in our winter coats for short sleeves and beautiful summer dresses.

LYS Escape 2015

It won’t be long before you’re rocking the shorter sleeves too! That time of year where everyone on social media is posting pictures of themselves in cute summer dresses, shorts and for the daring, the occasional bathing suit selfie…

Bearing witness to these photos it can be easy to secretly say to yourself, “I wish I could look that good wearing that” or “why don’t I look like that?!”

From there it’s pretty hard NOT to beat up on yourself and promise you’ll eat like a bird and work out like a maniac so you can look that good too.

Which, even if you do try going to those extremes, never lasts for more than 2 days.

So how do you keep your self-confidence up even though you don’t have your ideal body, yet?

Behold this week’s episode of J-ciniTV!

In it, I dish out one thing we can ALL do today to boost our self-confidence.

This is the first step to healing your body image:

How To Leave Food On Your Plate (Without Feeling Guilty!)

March 10, 2015

I didn’t come from a family that forced us to finish our plate before we could leave the table.

So when I sensed an overwhelming amount of guilt and shame when it came to leaving food on my plate, I really struggled with healing it.

For years I would overeat and tell myself, “oh it’s just a few extra bites. No big deal.”

But for me, a few extra bites quickly turned into 25 extra pounds.

I believe it’s important that we open up this conversation because this habit has very little to do with the tangible food. It has deeper roots than that.

In addition, our relationship with food is a mirror for how we do other things in life – like money, relationships, even our work.

So it’s more than just a few extra bites. And it is a big deal.

In this week’s episode of J-ciniTV, we start this healing journey together.

This is just the 1st step in learning how to trust your body and I’ve got your hand the whole way:

If you want more than just the 1st step, desire long lasting peace with food and want to know if one of the Laugh Yourself SkinnyTM programs is the right path for you, let’s connect for a complimentary Laugh Yourself SkinnyTM discovery session.

This is a complimentary 30 minute connection, my gift to you, reserved for women who are ready to receive high level support and get to the roots of your relationship with food. Your next step in receiving this powerful session is to fill out this application. Once submitted, I’ll personally review it. If I sense I can support you, a member of my team will reach out to get you scheduled.

Because it’s more than just food. And it is a big deal.

Jessica

Do you eat birthday cake? What to do…

March 3, 2015

A few weeks ago, I was giving one of my “Put The Cookie Down” workshops about healing your relationship with food. At one part of the evening we found ourselves talking about one of my favorite things…birthday cake.

One woman was telling me about her it’s-my-birthday-I’ll-eat-as much-cake-as-I-want-to approach and I could totally relate.

Then she asked me, “What about you? What do you do about birthday cake?”

I paused for a second, reflecting on my plans for this birthday – which is this Friday by the way 😉 – and realized that since I had healed my relationship with food, I hadn’t had birthday cake.

It wasn’t that it was off limits or I didn’t trust myself with it or even that I hate cake. Because, honestly, who doesn’t love cake?!

But I noticed that I actually had something better than birthday cake.

It wasn’t so much about the cake itself, but it was the feelings I got from eating cake that I had once longed for.

A disconnection from routine, pleasure, love, excitement…that’s what cake felt like to me. And I knew if I could find a way to have that without spiraling into sugar cravings and stuffing myself silly, I’d be golden.

Now I’ve built my birthday to be an experience similar to a cake, but this lasts more than a few moments on my lips and forever on my hips.

Here’s a snapshot of what I’ll be doing this weekend to celebrate:

I’m taking time OFF = this is my disconnection from routine

Scheduled time with family and friends = this is my feeling of love

Spending a weekend in my fav hotel in NYC = this is my feeling of pleasure

I booked a boudoir photoshoot (just for me) = this is my feeling of excitement/the “icing on the cake”

I found that when I built my birthday to give me the same feelings birthday cake gave me, I didn’t really even want it.

Because I was so full on life.

Even though you may not be joining me in person for my birthday extravaganzas, I wanted to make sure you got a little slice of “birthday cake” in this week’s J-ciniTV.

Now let me warn you… this is a complete disconnect from our usual routine and is full of love, pleasure and excitement!

I hear how much of a laugh you get from watching the bloopers each week, so for this special day, we put together some of the best bloopers from J-ciniTV.

So sit back, relax and enjoy a laugh with this slice of this J-ciniTV birthday cake:

7 Secrets to Eating Out

February 24, 2015

I’m Italian = I was born a food lover.

Ooh the decadent flavors of deliciousness dancing on my tongue!

I. LOVE. FOOD.

And I love it even more when I don’t have to cook it!

Combine my love for food and not having to slave away in the kitchen, I used to overeat every time I ate out. It was such a treat I just couldn’t get enough of it!

So naturally when I was looking to lose weight, I cleared my social calendar and vowed to never eat out again.

That was the only way I knew how to stay in control of my food.

Well, this didn’t last very long because I felt like a hermit and was pretty unhappy. And what’s the point in feeling good in my body if I couldn’t leave my own house?

Now I’m proud to say that I have mastered the art of eating out AND slimming down.

In this week’s J-ciniTV episode, I share with you 7 simple secrets to avoid overeating while eating out so you can have fun and be social without sacrificing your body.

My Before & After Pictures

February 10, 2015

If you haven’t already signed up for this, do so NOW ===> HERE <===

I’ve been pouring my heart and soul into this. It’s going to be powerful. Transformational. I can feel it. And I’m so excited to share this with you!

But there’s one piece I’ve been pulling together that I just couldn’t wait till Thursday to share with you.

In fact, I haven’t shared this with ANYONE before.

*deep breath*

They are my before and after pictures. I was 25 pounds heavier and 3 pant sizes bigger.

And I feel really vulnerable sharing this with you, so go easy on me 😉

Jessica's before and after
The photo on the left was taken in 2008. Kinda hilarious that I was holding a cupcake as I was in the thick of my emotional eating at the time.

I remember exactly how I felt sitting at that table.

Heavy. Self-conscious. Trapped inside my body. Like I was wearing a heavy overcoat that was not mine.

On the outside, things might not have looked so bad. On the inside, I felt like I was dying a slow death.

I was searching for control around food and my body in diets and doubling up on workouts. But nothing ever stuck as I would always find my hands right back on the cookies and cupcakes.

My intention in sharing with you is to show you that things CAN be different. That you don’t have to feel like you’re fighting against yourself or food.

This is exactly why I’m committed to delivering this powerful training on Thursday so I can share with you the formula behind building a healthy relationship with food.

The way I found peace and fun with food and continue to support my clients in doing the same.

Let’s put food back in its rightful place, as fuel, so you can take that excess weight overcoat off and finally have freedom around food, your body and your life.

If you haven’t already, sign up to receive this powerful training: www.laughyourselfskinnynow.com

I’m so grateful I can be of service to you.

“See” you Thursday!

Lots of love,

Jessica
